Location & identity
Home to the highest point in Providence
Silver Lake sits on Providence’s western edge, with Route 10 to the east, Route 6 to the southeast, and Johnston and Cranston to the west. It takes its name from a small lake that was filled in around 1900 near today’s Plainfield Street.
Most of the neighborhood’s homes were built in the early 1900s, and two- to four-family houses make up the majority of its housing. Neutaconkanut Hill, at 296 feet, is the highest point in the city.
