Location & identity
A coastal city of villages on Narragansett Bay
Warwick, with about 83,000 residents, is Rhode Island’s third-largest city. Its entire eastern edge is waterfront, running from the Providence River to Narragansett Bay and wrapping around Greenwich Bay.
Founded in 1642, Warwick is made up of villages including Apponaug, Pawtuxet, Conimicut, Oakland Beach, Cowesett, and Warwick Neck. The 1772 Gaspee Affair, an early act of resistance before the American Revolution, took place off Gaspee Point.
